Very warm today, cold front to bring cooler air for Thursday and Friday
PEORIA (25News Now) - Temperatures in the mid to upper 50s are making for a comfortable start to Wednesday across central Illinois. Another day with lots of sunshine is on tap! Afternoon highs will once again climb into the mid 80s. A “backdoor” cold front will move from north to south through the region later today. Northeast winds will gust up to 25 mph this afternoon and evening.
A high concentration of wildfire smoke will be present in the skies today. The passing cold front will likely bring some of the smoke lower in the atmosphere, which may impact air quality at the surface level. The EPA says that the air quality may be “Unhealthy for Some” across the region. A lower concentration of wildfire smoke over the next few days should result in improved air quality for the start of the weekend.
The Memorial Day Weekend forecast features a lot of sunshine and highs in the low to mid 80s. The travel forecast looks great, with quiet weather projected to continue for much of the Midwest through the weekend. Temperatures are trending upward for the middle of next week, with the latest data pointing towards highs in the low 90s for next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Talk about a toasty way to close May and open June!
