PEORIA (25News Now) - Temperatures in the mid to upper 50s are making for a comfortable start to Wednesday across central Illinois. Another day with lots of sunshine is on tap! Afternoon highs will once again climb into the mid 80s. A “backdoor” cold front will move from north to south through the region later today. Northeast winds will gust up to 25 mph this afternoon and evening.

A high concentration of wildfire smoke will be present in the skies today. The passing cold front will likely bring some of the smoke lower in the atmosphere, which may impact air quality at the surface level. The EPA says that the air quality may be “Unhealthy for Some” across the region. A lower concentration of wildfire smoke over the next few days should result in improved air quality for the start of the weekend.
