UPDATE: 1 person wounded in Peoria as playground becomes crime scene
UPDATE (6:30 p.m.) - Peoria Police say dozens of rounds, including shots from a fully automatic weapon, were fired late Wednesday afternoon as a playground became a crime scene behind Christ Lutheran School and Logan Recreation Center on the city’s south side.
An 18-year-old man was shot. Shell casings were found in the grass at the playground.
ShotSpotter alerts detected dozens of rounds being fired simultaneously on South Westmoreland Avenue and West Starr Street.
A block down the road is where the 18-year-old was found shot in the 1300 block of South Arago Street. Police believe he will survive despite the many rounds that were fired. His condition at a local hospital is listed as stable.
Police don’t believe any children were at the school or the park at the time of the shooting.
Peoria Police are assisted by officers from Peoria Park District Police and Illinois State Police.
No suspect information was available, but police spoke with several witnesses who saw the shooting.

PEORIA (25News Now) - Peoria Police have blocked off a large crime scene after one person was shot on the city’s south side.
The victim is 18-years old and injuries are apparently non-life threatening, said Police Chief Eric Echavarria after a report of a shooting near West Starr Street and South Westmoreland Avenue.
Jenise Rebholz from 25News reports from the scene that police were counting shell casings in a place where kids play.
Police were called about 5 p.m.
Officers were seen examining shell casings behind Logan Recreation Center on South Livingston Street.
