Veteran brothers reunited during Greater Peoria Honor Flight visit to Washington

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - The Greater Peoria Honor Flight set off on its first journey of the year on Tuesday when dozens of veterans got a chance to see Washington, D.C’s war memorials, including two brothers who were reunited on the trip.

World War II veteran Jules Breyne and his younger brother and Korean War Veteran Donald Breyne met up on the trip after being apart for the last two years.

“It was real nice to see him again,” said Donald.

Jules lives in Aurora, Illinois and Donald lives in Georgia but the two got to come together after Donald’s sons arranged for them both come on the honor flight.

“For my father and my uncle it’s amazing,” said Tim. “I think we all shed a tear. It’s more than moving.”

Together they toured the memorials and remembered the service and the sacrifices that they made for the nation.

Jules said seeing the World War II Memorial brought back some tough memories but was grateful to have the chance to come and see it for the first time.

“I’m really enjoying it. I told him, most people in Illinois don’t even know it’s here,” said Jules.

Jules came on the trip just before his 99th birthday, which is next month.
