(25News Now) - What a way to finish the girls track season. Saturday was state finals day at the IHSA State Track and Field meet in Charleston and there was plenty of Central Illinois representation at the top of the podium.
In Class 3A, Normal Community star junior Ali Ince added another three state championships to her incredible resume. Ince took home individual titles in the 400 and 800 and then anchored the Iron’s victory in the 4x400 relay along with Queen Patricia Lubala, Lily Cavanuagh and Abigail Ziemer.
In Class 2A, Dunlap’s Chelsea Wetzel soared to victory in the pole vault.
In Class 1A, Tremont’s Cambria Geyer took home a state title for the second consecutive year, this time winning the 100 hurdles. Meanwhile, Henry’s Laney Lester won the 1A discus and finished second in the shot put. Elmwood-Brimfield’s Mya Strahm is also a state champ. The sophomore won the 1A pole vault. Also in Class 1A, Stark County’s Lindley Johnston flashed her versatility, finishing top 3 in three different events.
Saturday was also regional title day in small schools baseball. In Class 2A, Eureka outdueled Pontiac 3-1 to win their own regional. Elsewhere, Bloomington Central Catholic had an offensive explosion in a 16-2 win over Tremont at the Tri-Valley regional. In Class 1A, Delavan held off a late LeRoy rally to win the LeRoy regional 5-4.
In softball, two-time defending state champion Illini Bluffs is once again a regional champion. The Tigers won their own regional with a 7-1 win over Pawnee. Elsewhere in 1A, Heyworth is a regional champion after an 8-4 win over Argenta-Oreana.
In tennis, Morton’s Aiden Belsley and Blake Shoemaker won the doubles title at the Dunlap sectional while Peoria Notre Dame’s Scott Anderson is the singles champion.
