(25News Now) - The IHSA Girls State Track meet officially got underway on Thursday with prelims in Class 1A. Tremont’s Cambria Geyer ran the fastest preliminary time in the 100 hurdles and the second-fastest time of the day in the 300 hurdles to advance to Saturday’s finals. She also qualified with the third-best time of the day in the 200.
Stark County’s Lindley Johnston is a multi-event finalist. She ran the fastest 200 time of the day and also qualified in the 100, 400 and in the high jump.
Eureka’s Laurel Munson had the top preliminary long jump of the day and also qualified for finals in the 400. The Hornets also have all four relay teams headed to the finals, including winning their preliminary heats in the 4x100 and 4x800.
Meanwhile, Henry freshman Daniella Bumber had the fastest time in the 400 while also qualifying for finals in the 100 and 200. Teammate Laney Lester had the top preliminary throw in the shot put and discus.
In softball, Metamora won their first outright Mid-Illini title since 2011 with a 7-1 senior night victory over Dunlap. Washington, meanwhile, finished up a great conference season with a 5-1 win over Morton while Pekin topped East Peoria 3-2 in a 14-inning thriller.
In the Class 2A baseball state tournament, Bloomington Central Catholic is moving on. The Saints advanced to the Tri-Valley regional with a 10-0 win over the host Vikings. They will play Tremont for the regional title on Saturday. Elsewhere in Class 2A, Pontiac is moving on at the Eureka regional. They beat El Paso-Gridley 13-1 to advance to face the host Hornets in Saturday’s regional championship.
In regular season baseball, Normal U-High swept a doubleheader of Springfield Southeast.
