(25News Now) - Wednesday was sectional championship night in boys track and we’ve got plenty of Central Illinois athletes headed to next week’s state meet.

At the 2A Dunlap sectional, defending discus state champion IVC’s David Russell dominated the throwing events winning both the shot put and discus sectional titles. Richwoods’ Darin Dussett won both the 100 and 200. Metamora’s Drew Tucker soared to a victory in the high jump.

At the 1A El Paso-Gridley sectional, Eureka had another terrific night as the Hornets won the team title.

In the Class 2A IHSA Soccer State Tournament, Peoria Notre Dame began what they hope is a long state tournament run with a 7-0 win over host Orion in a regional semifinal. They will take on Dunlap in Friday night’s regional championship game. The Eagles beat Rock Island to advance.

In softball, IVC blanked Brimfield/Elmwood 7-0 in Class 2A regional action. The Grey Ghosts were led by a 17-strikeout one-hitter from Katie Petran.

In Class 2A baseball, Eureka beat Dee-Mack 6-1 at their own regional while Tremont picked up a 6-0 win over Clinton at the Tri-Valley regional.

In big schools baseball, Morton beat Washington 8-3 in the Mid-Illini finale.
