MCLEAN COUNTY (25News Now) - A Bloomington man, just released from prison for failing to register as a sex offender, is facing 40 more charges that he was in possession of child pornography.
The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) website indicates Dennis Covington, 51, was released on parole Monday, then taken to the Twin Cities to appear in court on allegations that he was in possession of child pornography in early 2020.
IDOC records show Covington failed to register, as required, after his 1995 aggravated criminal sexual abuse conviction in Will County.
For the 40 felony child porn charges, Covington is being held in the McLean County Jail on $250,000 bond. He has to pay 10% of that, or $25,000 cash to be released.
Covington’s arraignment is scheduled for June 2.
