UPDATE 12:20 P.M. - McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder has identified the man as Rick J. Plourde, 60, of Bloomington.

Preliminary autopsy opinion indicates that Plourde died from drowning.

He was pronounced deceased at 11:37 p.m. Monday.

Toxicology testing is pending.

MCLEAN COUNTY (25News Now) - Illinois State Police say one person is dead after a vehicle went into a pond shortly before 9 pm Monday night.

The incident happened at Boyd Wesley Park near I-55, about a mile south of Towanda. It shut down the northbound lanes of I-55 for four hours.

State Police say it was for “unknown reasons” the vehicle went off the road to the east and went into the pond.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead on scene.

The Normal Fire Department said on its Facebook page Monday night that it is on the scene, along with the Towanda and Bloomington Fire Departments and the MABAS 41 dive team.
