Students show ‘Peace Plays in Peoria’
PEORIA (25News Now) - Dozens of students proved Monday, ‘Peace Plays in Peoria.’
The final day of the Gerald M. Brookhart Arts in Education Spring Celebration was dedicated to promoting peace in the River City.
Director of Special Projects for the Regional Office of Education David Peohls says more than 43 schools in 7 counties participated in the 17 day event outside the Peoria County Courthouse.
Poehls says Monday’s goal was to promote healing and hope through music for people impacted by violence in the community.
“Students are involved very much in making this a peaceful place and a productive place to be in central Illinois,” Poehls continued, “Look at what the kids are doing too. We have seen everything from choirs, from band, it’s been an amazing, amazing experience.”
Poehls says the event proved the arts are alive and well in Downtown Peoria.
