UPDATE - Attorneys have selected 12-member jury and two alternate jurors. Opening statements are scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
McLEAN COUNTY (25News Now) - The first-degree murder trial for Michael Bakana will continue - without him present.
Jury selection is set to begin Tuesday.
Judge Casey Costigan believes this may be one of the first cases in the state for a first-degree murder trial to continue without the defendant present.
Bakana failed to show up for court Monday with his GPS monitor tracing his steps before it was found Monday morning on Raab Road in Normal.
He is accused of fatally shooting Mariah Petracca and critically injuring another woman outside Daddio’s Bar in Bloomington on January 30, 2021.
