One Class at a Time: Giving her best, no matter the cost at Trewyn Primary
Fourth Grade Teacher Mariah Riggenbach
PEORIA (25News Now) - Over 94 percent of students that attend Trewyn Primary School in Peoria are from low-income households. In this week’s One Class at a Time, we talked to one teacher who doesn’t let that stop her from giving her students the best education.
Miss Riggenbach is a fourth grade teacher at Trewyn and said, ”We’re a title 1 school, so we don’t have a lot of resources and funding available, and I want to be able to provide my students with all of the resources and supplies and just fun activities I can for them because they are as deserving as everybody else to have a quality education.” Because of the lack of funding, she spends a lot out of her own pocket. ”I’ve probably spent maybe about $1000 this year, buying books supplies all the stuff on the walls I’ve had to buy myself.”
The classroom needs to be refilled with basic supplies and Miss Riggenbach wants to invest in more fun, STEM learning activities for her students. She is this week’s $1000 grant winner from 25News and CEFCU!
