(25News Now) - Wednesday featured a terrific small schools vs. big schools softball matchup at Eastside Centre. Two-time defending Class 1A state champion Illini Bluffs edged Mid-Illini power East Peoria 9-7 to pick up a big win. Elsewhere, Pontiac blanked Limestone 3-0 while Metamora used a big sixth inning to beat Mt. Zion 7-1.
In baseball, Washington shutout LaSalle-Peru 3-0 behind six strong innings from Braden Vanderheydt. Tremont, meanwhile, took down Peoria Notre Dame 7-1. Elsewhere, Dee-Mack eeked out a 1-0 win over Delavan in eight innings at Dozer Park. Meanwhile, Normal U-High rolled past Springfield Lanphier 15-0.
At the Intercity Soccer Tournament, a late-game goal from Sophie Lampert lifted Normal West to a 1-0 win over Normal U-High.
Dunlap soccer player Tessa Sutton was laid to rest Wednesday with a beautiful funeral and celebration of life where coaches and teammates remembered the terrific soccer player she was.
