LEXINGTON (25News Now) - A McLean County community with a population of just over 2,000 people is getting much-needed housing, according to its mayor.
The Lexington City Council has unanimously approved the preliminary plan for the Century Oaks Subdivision, a development that will include 40 single-family homes, 30 duplexes and 64 apartments.
Landowner Cary Davis wants to build Century Oaks on 32 acres just off of PJ Keller Highway behind the Dollar General store. It will be built in phases, with the single-family homes.
“We realized some time ago we needed housing, but it just took some time and the right people to make it happen,” Mayor Spencer Johansen said in a statement.
“This project will fill our desire to attract new citizens and their families to be a part of our exciting future,” Johansen said.
The mayor said Davis bought the property in June 2022. Davis and the city have been working “countless hours” to make the project possible, Johansen also said.
