PEORIA (25News Now) -Two rival colleges are facing off in a heated competition, and this time there will be blood.

The ‘Challenge on 74 Blood Battle’ pits longtime rivals Bradley and Illinois State University against each other, to see which school can collect more donations.

The Bradley Red Cross Club and Redbird Red Cross Club compete for bragging rights, a travelling trophy and to help collect blood for much needed donations.

According to American Red Cross Account Manager Caleb Liggin, someone in the U.S. is in need of blood every two seconds. He hopes that the friendly competition will help bring in consistent donors.

“A lot of people had their first donations when they were in high school or college. Giving them an opportunity like today to be able to support their school and have a little bit of school pride, but then also give back to their community is hopefully starting the lifelong process of becoming a regular blood donor,” Liggin said.

The event is open to the public with appointments, and lasts through Thursday, March 30.
