Central Illinois track & field standouts shine at indoor state championships, preview a promising outdoor season
BLOOMINGTON (25News Now) - The Top Times track meet was held Friday and Saturday in Bloomington. The state’s unofficial indoor state finals also serves as a preview for what looks to be a championship spring in Central Illinois track & field.
In Class 1A, Bloomington Central Catholic freshman Isaiah Whitaker took first in pole vault, Stark County’s Lindley Johnston won the 400 and 200 titles, Tremont’s Cambria Geyer was the champion in the 60 hurdles, El Paso-Gridley’s Aubrey Phillips won the high jump, Henry’s Laney Lester took home a win in the shot put, and Eureka’s Laurel Munson won the long jump./
In Class 2A, Metamora’s Drew Tucker took first in the high jump, Dunlap’s Chelsea Wetzel won the pole vault, and Peoria Richwoods’ Lena Jackson won the 60 dash.
