PEORIA (25News Now) - The Peoria Riverfront Museum held an Interplanetary 5K and one-mile walk Saturday morning for anyone wanting to learn more about our Solar System.

The race kicked off at 9:00 a.m., and the family-oriented race/walk was for all ages. There was even a fun run for kids!

The run took participants through portions of the Central Illinois Community Solar System, the world’s most complete large-scale model of the Solar System.

Runners and walkers followed the routes of the interplanetary explorers through the Solar System — from the Sun, past Mercury, Venus and Earth to Mars — and back. This all happened along the Riverfront trail.

“With the planetarium being the sun and based on the width of the sun, we spaced out the planets according to the solar system,” said Mike Rucker, the race director.

Prizes were awarded to the top male and female runners in each age division.

The fastest man finished in 16 minutes while the fastest woman finished in just over 20 minutes.
