(25News Now) - The unofficial indoor state track and field championships wrapped up on Saturday with thoughts of three Central Illinois athletes lost far too soon on the minds of many.

Prairie Central three-sport standouts Dylan Bazzell (60m hurdles, high jump) and Drew Fehr (pole vault) were both set to compete at Illinois Top Times before their tragic passing last weekend. They were honored in a number of ways at the state meet, including Dylan’s lane in his 60m hurdle heat being left open and 2A pole vaulters wearing blue wristbands in honor of Drew.

As for the meet, in just his second-ever high school track meet, Metamora’s Drew Tucker soared to victory in the high jump while IVC’s David Russell placed second in shot put.

On the girls side, Dunlap was competing in honor of Tessa Sutton who lost her battle with cancer on Friday. Eagles junior Chelsea Wetzel won the pole vault in Sutton’s honor while Teagan Sullivan finished second in the long jump. Other Class 2A girls winners included Richwoods sophomore Lena Jackson in the 60m dash and the Morton 4x800 relay team.

In Class 3A, Normal Community’s Chris Taylor finished second in the high jump on a tiebreaker while teammate Alex Sohn finished third in shot put. Bloomington freshman Claudia Ifft won third place in the pole vault.
