(25News Now) - The unofficial indoor state track championships kicked off on Friday at Shirk Center in Bloomington with Illinois Top Times 1A action.
We had a number of local unofficial state champs on the girls side. Stark County’s Lindley Johnston was a double winner. The Murray State signee won both the 400 and 200 titles. Tremont’s Cambria Geyer was the champion in the 60 hurdles. El Paso-Gridley’s Aubrey Phillips won the high jump while Henry’s Laney Lester took home the win in shot put and Eureka’s Laurel Munson did the same in the long jump.
In boys action, Bloomington Central Catholic freshman wunderkind Isaiah Whittaker smashed the meet record in pole vault, clearing 16 feet 6 inches on his way to victory. In the 800, Eureka’s Charlie Bardwell took second while Ridgeview’s Dominic Martin took third in the triple jump and 4th in the 60 hurdles.
In baseball, Morton beat St. Jospeh-Ogden 4-2 while Pekin topped Olympia 9-6. Elsewhere, Tremont edged IVC 3-2 and Fieldcrest blanked Roanoke-Benson 5-0. In softball, Metamora rolled past Fieldcrest.
