BLOOMINGTON (25News Now) - A threat of gun violence to an area school was later determined to be an act of “swatting.”

Bloomington Police responded at around 6:45 a.m. Thursday to all schools.

The incident was later determined to be swatting. Contact was made with the person allegedly making the threat and after speaking with them, it was determined not to be a credible threat to any area school.

Bloomington Police say swatting is defined by state statute as “Transmits or causes to be transmitted in any manner a threat of destruction of a school building or school property, or a threat of violence, death or, bodily harm directed against persons at a school, school function, or school event, whether or not school is in session. Swatting is a class 4 felony. If convicted, reimbursement of up to $10,000 to the public agency responding.”
