CHICAGO (25News Now) - 2022 was a record-breaking year for film revenue in Illinois, Governor JB Pritzker announced Friday.

Last year, film production earned more than $690 million and generated another $400 million for wages and doubling hiring from 2022.

Just last year, Pritzker also launched the film and TV workforce training program - 99 percent of those participants are now employed in the industry.

Hit TV shows like the Chicago franchise, Dark Matter and Somebody Somewhere are helping make Illinois a major player in the business.

“There’s no denying that Illinois has become a national leader in the film industry too,” he said in a press conference. “And we’re going to keep it that way. So far in 2023, we are in yet another record-breaking year.”

The second part of the film and TV workforce training program is set to start March 25.
