UPDATE: Arson suspected in house fire on Peoria’s south end

UPDATE (11:35 p.m.) - The Peoria Fire Department believes a house fire Wednesday night on the city’s south side was intentionally set.
Two people were home when fire broke out shortly before 9:30 p.m. on West Malone Avenue and South Ligonier Street.
Firefighters say they found one of the residents sleeping in the basement. Another person who lived there was awake and alerted authorities.
A dog and a cat also made it out of the house unharmed.
The Red Cross is helping the two residents find other housing.
The fire caused an estimated $25,000 damage, the fire department said.
PEORIA (25News Now) - The Peoria Fire Department was on the scene of a house fire on the city’s south side Wednesday night.
Firefighters were called shortly before 9:30 p.m.. to the corner of West Malone Avenue and South Ligonier Street.
Two people were inside the house, and firefighters pulled one of them to safety from the basement.
There were no injuries, though one person is displaced.
A dollar estimate of damage was not immediately available, and the fire department is determining the cause.
