Plea deal accepted for 2021 Peoria shooting
PEORIA (25News Now) - A judge has sentenced a Peoria man to 20 years in prison for a shooting that left a woman wounded in 2021.
Court records say the plea agreement for LaMarcus Chappell came as his trial was scheduled to begin on Monday.
Chappell, 32, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery for shooting the woman in an apartment on Oct. 1, 2021.
At least five children were also in the residence in the 2600 block of North Lavalle Court, but they were not hurt.
Authorities said Chappell fired shots at officers through the door, but they did not return fire. Chappell later surrendered.
As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dismissed charges of attempted first degree murder and home invasion.
Chappell must serve 85% of his prison sentence.
