NORMAL (25News Now) - Last week, Ron Burgundy visited Pekin and Peoria. Monday, it was Fonzie who showed up to receive some Central Illinois hospitality.

Actor Henry Winkler, best known for playing Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli on the hit TV series Happy Days in the 70s and 80s, was in Uptown Normal Monday to speak at a conference at the Marriott Hotel in Uptown Normal.

Before he spoke, Winkler did some shopping at the Children’s Discovery Museum and bought a pumpkin bar and mocha latte at Coffeehouse. That’s where Beth Whisman and Morgan Schulte, both from the town’s cultural arts department, ran into Winkler.

Whisman said she and Schulte paid his bill, but Winkler gave staff a generous tip.

She said a Coffeehouse employee recognized Winkler for his role on the HBO series “Barry.” Whisman said another customer asked if he was sociology professor.

Winkler also won acclaim for playing the role of Barry Zuckerkorn on the series Arrested Development.

Winkler told Whisman he came to Normal to talk about dyslexia. Winkler says he has dyslexia and has co-authored children’s books about the subject.
