(25News Now) - The bridge carrying Illinois 17 between Lacon and Sparland over the Illinois River is scheduled to be closed beginning March 18, weather permitting.
The bridge will remain closed to all traffic until November, the second bridge in Central Illinois to be closed until the fall.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says motorists will be detoured to use Illinois 29, Illinois 18 and Illinois 26 to make the loop between Lacon and Sparland.
IDOT says the estimated $10 million project consists of steel repair, bearing rehabilitation, joint replacement, painting, bridge deck overlay, roadway lighting, drainage improvements and other related work.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through the area.
The use of alternate routes should be considered.
Midland Community Unit School District #7 posted bridge closure information, available here.
