PEORIA (25News Now) - Despite the rainy and gloomy conditions outside, families were able to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day down by the riverfront. Following Saturday’s Blarney Blitz 5K, Sunday was about bringing families together to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day this Friday.
Kelleher’s hosted a family fun day on Sunday at their Pub for those who want to beat the crowd this weekend.
Children and teens were able to get their faces painted and enjoy traditional Irish food.
Owner Pat Sullivan says it’s a custom for locals to gather in a pub during this festive holiday.
With St. Patrick’s Day being their busiest day of the year ... this serves as their saint “practice” day before the main event to help families beat next weekend’s crowd.
“The traditions of families do get together, especially in pubs in Ireland. After church, they come into the Pubs and have a little breakfast or lunch and converse with everybody and that’s where they meet.” Said Sullivan.
On the menu were corn beef and cabbage, corn beef sandwiches and shepherd pie to hold on to the Irish tradition of food according to Sullivan.
