(25News Now) - The high school basketball season came to its conclusion on Saturday with a pair of teams from Central Illinois playing for state championships.

In Class 3A, the Metamora Redbirds are state champions in boys basketball for the first time in school history. The Redbirds defeated Chicago Simeon 46-42 in overtime for the Class 3A State Championship.

Metamora trailed by 10 in the second quarter and by 9 at halftime. The Redbirds opened the second half on a 10-0 run. Then in the fourth quarter took a brief 4-point lead before Simeon tied the game with less than 2 minutes to go. In overtime, Simeon took a quick 2-point led, however, Metamora outscored them 12-6 the rest of the way to bring home the state title.

Tyson Swanson led the way for the Redbirds with 20 points, shooting 7-10 from the floor. Tyler Mason chipped in 16 for the Redbirds.

In Class 2A, Bloomington Central Catholic also finishes second place in state. The Saints fell 65-41 to Chicago Depaul College Prep in the state title game. Cole Certa scored 18 points for the Saints who finish the season 26-12 and with their best season since 2014 and their third state trophy ever.
