PEORIA (25News Now) - Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lisa Holder White spoke at a luncheon in Bloomington on Friday.

As part of their 2023 Women Speaker Series, she was a keynote speaker for The Women of Rotary in McLean County. She described her role on the high court, to help lift the veil on the judicial system.

Being the first black woman to hold a position on the state’s highest court, Justice Holder White shared her thoughts on blazing the trail for women of color everywhere. “I look forward to the day when it’s not news that a black woman is joining the high court or some other entity where they haven’t traditionally been.”

Justice Holder White above all else, wanted to help inform the community. “I’m here to educate, and I think that part of that education is getting out to those people of the 4th district, which is the district I represent on the court, and letting them know who I am and what I’m about.”

Justice Holder White has served as a Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court since July 2022, after being a judge for over 20 years.
