PEORIA (25News Now) - New and future medical professionals gathered, Saturday, as they learned more about safety practices during surgery.
Students and current techs sat through lectures about the latest updates in the medical field.
They learned about medical advancements and ways they can take care of their patients.
This is the second time Illinois Central College was the host for this statewide meeting with over 100 people coming to the river city for the conference.
The Vice President of the Illinois State Assembly Sonya M. Conton CST & RST, says with ICC offering surgical technology as a degree allows students at the school to network and find mentors in this exciting but unknown field.
”It’s a very fun job. It’s not as rewarding because it’s not known. Most of the time when you hear about surgery, you’ll mainly looking at the doctors or the nurses. We’re kind of the unsung heroes that are behind the scenes.”
Following Saturday’s session, there are plans to hold this event again in the fall at the college.
