EAST PEORIA (25News Now) - Election day is less than a month away. To prepare for local races, East Peoria City Council candidates spoke to voters on what they stand for.

Friday morning, residents got together for ‘Eggs and Issues’, a public event at Par-A-Dice Casino. Each of the five candidates on the ballot shared their thoughts on issues facing the community, while voters asked questions of their own.

East Peoria Mayor John Kahl, who’s running unopposed this cycle, says he hopes those casting their ballots can walk away more informed on their decision next month. For him, keeping the priorities of the people ahead of the candidates’ own is the most important part of hosting these events.

“Elections have consequences, but local elections are probably the ones that impact our daily lives the most,” he says.

This was the only scheduled candidate forum for the City Council race. There are five candidates for four seats on the East Peoria City Council and four of the candidates are incumbents.

Election day is April 4.
