Peoria Police gather women officers to encourage recruits
PEORIA (25News Now) - On this International Women’s Day, Peoria Police are working to recruit more women for their force.
They hosted an informational meeting on Wednesday night to offer more insight to what life is like on the force.
The women-lead event covered the hiring process, work-life balance, and the physical demands of the profession.
Officer Krista Cunningham tells 25 News that the department didn’t have these events when she was applying, and she believes they can make an impact.
“I think it’s extremely important you have people from all different backgrounds... people that are moms, people that aren’t moms, people who are college graduates, people who are not college graduates... everyone from officers, sergeants, and detectives to give that prospective from all those different people rather than just talking with one person,” said Officer Cunningham.
Salaries after certified training start around $62,000.
