PEORIA (25News Now) - One juvenile was arrested for multiple offenses during an investigation Wednesday when a fully automatic handgun with an extended magazine was found during a vehicle search, according to Peoria Police.
Spokesperson Semone Roth says the 17-year-old was arrested for possession of a machine gun, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, resisting police and had an active warrant for motor vehicle theft.
A second juvenile was issued traffic citations and released.
Roth says that Wednesday around 5:20 p.m., a vehicle of interest in a current investigation was surveilled parked in the 700 block of East Lasalle.
At around 6:36 p.m., officers observed two male juveniles enter the vehicle and drive away. Officers followed and observed the vehicle stop at a local business.
Officers immediately approached the vehicle because of a traffic violation. One of the juveniles was detained but the other fled on foot, but was apprehended in the 3800 block of West Brighton and placed into custody.
