MTXE motto fuels Metamora to second-straight trip to IHSA State Finals

(25 News Now) - MTXE. It stands for Mental Toughness, Xtra Effort. It was first introduced to Central Illinois by Illinois State head coach Gene Smithson in the 1970s. That’s where Metamora head coach Danny Grieves first heard of the motto when he attended ISU camps as a player. Now in 2023, Grieves is using that motto with his Metamora team and it’s part of what’s gotten the Redbirds back to the state finals for the second-straight season.
