Another cannabis business files plans for dispensary in north Normal
NORMAL (25 News Now) - Leaders in Normal are again being asked to approve plans for a second business wanting to sell cannabis for recreational use.
Only a month after the town council on a 6-1 vote refused to allow recreational marijuana to be sold at one of the community’s busiest areas, near Veterans Parkway and College Avenue, another company has come forward seeking a special use permit for a dispensary at a different location.
Illinois Health & Wellness, LLC has picked a strip mall for a dispensary called Revolution in the 1600 block of Northbrook Drive. It’s close to Heartland Community College, the Corn Crib and a mobile home park, but a report from town staff said the Raab Road intersection is “well-designed to handle the nominal increase in traffic.”
Revolution expects to serve about 250 customers per day. It would be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Revolution’s website said the company operates retail stores in four states and runs a cultivation facility in Delavan.
Normal’s Zoning Board of Appeals is scheduled to review the plans March 16, with the town council having the final say after that.
