CENTRAL ILLINOIS (25 News Now) - Monday was “Super Monday” in high school boys basketball. Several area teams playing in Monday’s Super-Sectionals with a chance to punch their tickets to state.

In Class 3A, Metamora trying to return to state for back-to-back years. The Redbirds do just that with a 60-48 win over Marmion Academy in the Ottawa Super-Sectional. Metamora will now face East St. Louis, who defeated defending state champ Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin.

In Class 2A, it was an all Illini Prairie Conference Springfield Super-Sectional with Bloomington Central Catholic and Pontiac battling for a spot in state. The Saints win the battle with a 67-53 victory over Pontiac to punch their ticket to state. Central Catholic will play Rockridge in the semifinal Thursday.

In Class 1A, Illini Bluffs’ amazing season came to an end at the Jacksonville Super-Sectional, falling to Gibault Catholic 45-44. Meanwhile, Cornerstone Christian Academy punched its ticket to state for the first time in program history with a 58-28 win over Chicago de Sales at the Normal Super-Sectional. Cornerstone will face Gibault Catholic in the semifinal Thursday.
