TREMONT (25 News Now) - A local farm technology company based in Central Illinois is getting even bigger - but sticking to their local roots.

Headquartered in Tremont, Precision Planting makes hardware and software for farmers to add-on to older equipment - keeping them up-to-date and cost-efficient.

Precision Planting was founded in 1993 by a local farmer. In 2023, 400 employees work for the company locally, with an additional 250 across the world.

Their current facility was opened in 2014. To meet much larger demand, a new facility in Morton is under construction.

The location was narrowed down from others across the country as they chose to stay local.

Along with an additional 30 jobs, it will allow the company to add more products and services to its lineup which gets shipped directly to distributors.

“The general public sometimes might have a perception that farmers are low technology, when the reality is farmers are very high technology these days,” said Precision Planting marketing manager Bryce Baker. “It’s one of the industries that has a high adoption of tech.”

A gradual transition will happen from the old facility once the interior is up and running.

Baker says the company plans to be fully operational at the new site by November 1.

A total cost for the project was not provided.
