UPDATE: Man arrested for Mason County homicide

UPDATE 4:58 P.M. - The Illinois State Police say a man wanted by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office was arrested for first-degree murder.

The sheriff’s office confirms that Paul A. Harris is the son of Paul D. Harris.

Paul A. Harris, 41. is in the Mason County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

MASON COUNTY (25 News Now) - The Illinois State Police has been asked by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a suspicious death in the rural county.

State police say that around 9:09 a.m. Thursday, the sheriff’s office responded to a home in the 22000 block of Fleming Road in Goofy Ridge for a well-being check.

When law enforcement arrived, they found 69-year-old Paul D. Harris dead near the residence.

State police responded to collect evidence and interview witnesses.

An autopsy is scheduled for March 4.

State police say no additional public safety concerns are believed to exist.
