(25 News Now) - Wednesday was Sectional Semifinal Night: Part 2 across the state with a number of Central Illinois teams in action.
In Class 3A, No. 1 Metamora won their 28th straight game with a 72-70 win over Sterling at the Galesburg Sectional. The Redbirds will take on Peoria Richwoods in the sectional final on Friday. Elsewhere in 3A, Normal West’s season came to an end with a 80-57 loss to Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin at the Decatur MacArthur Sectional.
In Class 2A, No. 1 Prairie Central is headed to the Herscher Sectional Final. The Hawks beat Bishop McNamara 74-66 and will face rival Pontiac for the sectional title on Friday. At the the Pleasant Plains Sectional, it’ll be another big rivalry matchup in the championship game. Bloomington Central Catholic knocked off host Pleasant Plains 33-31 and will meet rival Normal U-High on Friday for a spot in Elite 8.
In Class 1A, Peoria Christian fell 51-39 to Camp Point Central at the Bushnell-Prairie City Sectional. Camp Point will play Illini Bluffs for a sectional title on Friday. Meanwhile at the 1A Heyworth Sectional, Bloomington Cornerstone Christian topped Salt fork 51-38 to advance to Friday night’s sectional final where they’ll meet Lexington for a spot in the Super-Sectionals. At the Putnam County Sectional, Midland fell 80-71 to Chicago St. Francis de Sales.
And it was a special afternoon at Metamora as four Redbirds announced their college athletics plans.
