Bradley wins MVC Regular Season Title for first time since 1996, defeating Drake 73-61
PEORIA (25 News Now) - The Bradley Braves are Missouri Valley Conference Regular Season championship after defeating Drake 73-61 in front of a sold-out Carver Arena Sunday. It’s the first regular season title for Bradley since the 1995-96 season.
The Braves and Bulldogs entered the game tied for first atop the standings. The win gives Bradley the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the MVC Tournament.
Connor Hickman led the Braves with 19 points, going 4-5 from 3-point range. Malevy Leons chipped in 12 points, while Rienk Mast had 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Bradley led by as many as 9 in the first half. Drake took a brief 1-point lead in the second half before Bradley went on a 15-0 run to go up 14.
The Braves will now play Friday in the Missouri Valley Tournament in St. Louis, taking on the winner of Illinois State, who closed out its season with a 72-53 win over Evansville, and Northern Iowa.
