(25 News Now) - The high school girls basketball Sweet 16 became the Elite Eight on Thursday night with sectional final matchups across the state. In Class 3A, Peoria High edged Washington 35-29 in a battle of Central Illinois powers to claim the Peoria Richwoods sectional title. The title is the Lions first sectional championship since 2001. They will play in Monday’s Pontiac Super-Sectional against Chicago Heights Marian. In Class 4A, Normal Community’s terrific season came to an end with a 60-42loss to O’Fallon at the O’Fallon Sectional.
In Class 2A, we had an all-Heart of Illinois Conference matchup in the Rockridge Sectional Final as Dee-Mack beat conference rival Eureka 37-32 to win the first sectional championship in program history. The Chiefs will play defending state champion Quincy Notre Dame in the Macomb Super-Sectional on Monday. Elsewhere in Class 2A, Fieldcrest is headed back to the Elite 8 for the second straight season. The Knights beat Peotone 68-64 in triple overtime to win the Coal City Sectional. They’ll get a rematch with Chicago Noble/Butler who they beat in the Super-Sectional last year. This year they’ll play at Peotone on Monday.
In Class 1A, Havana’s season continues. The Ducks beat Brown County 40-34 to win the A-Town Sectional. They will play Okawville at the Brown County Super-Sectional on Monday.
