Midwest Food Bank ship boxes of food to people in need in the southern U.S.
PEORIA (25 News Now) - Midwest Food Bank is partnering with Amazon to feed families in Kentucky.
Volunteers were busy packing up boxes early Wednesday.
Over the next 12 weeks, they will be filling up 1,092 boxes a week. That’s a total of 17,000 meals a week.
Amazon will distribute the food to Harlan, Kentucky, where more than 43% of the population has an income below the poverty rate.
The executive director for Midwest Food Bank, Audrey Kamm, said the more food they send out, the more volunteers they need.
“We distribute a lot of food out of here already. We have 3,600 volunteers with are regular distributions. But this we are adding, and we are not going to take away any of the local distributions around here. We want to magnify our impact. In order to do that, we need more volunteers,” said Kamm.
Kamm said volunteers are needed for the next 12 weeks.
The first shipment will go out February 27th.
