(25 News Now) - Early voting has begun for the consolidated elections on April 4.
The Peoria County Election Commission sent out more than 15,000 mail-in ballots to registered voters for the election and they encourage voters to vote in any way they can.
While the turnout for these local elections is historically low, commission executive director Elizabeth Gannon says voting is still important.
“As an election administration, I want people to be involved in the democratic process and get out and vote,” she said. “In odd years, you are electing people that affect your day-to-day lives. These people have say in roads, jobs, school funding. Things that affect our everyday lives. it’s really important to participate.”
