Millions of dollars earmarked to speed up job growth in Illinois
CHICAGO (25 News Now) - The State of Illinois is putting $40 million into the development of what leaders call “megasites” around the state.
A megasite is a large, developed spot that is move-in ready for manufacturers, distribution centers and industrial tenants.
The program allows local governments, private businesses and non-profits to use the grants for development to attract businesses.
“Major job creators are consistently looking for investment-ready sites they can get up and running in a short amount of time, and Illinois is home to some of the largest such sites in the country,” said Gov. JB Pritzker.
The individual grants range from $250,000 to $5 million with the amount determined by acreage.
Applications for the grants can be found on the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity website and will be available until Apr. 6.
