PEORIA (25 News Now) - Hopefully you got a chance to enjoy the nice February weather over the weekend! The work week is off to a frosty start, as temperatures have dipped below the freezing mark over much of the area. A few areas of patchy fog are possible out the door, however these chances appear fairly low. A mostly cloudy, mild, and windy Monday is on tap. Southeasterly winds will gust up to 40 mph this afternoon and evening. Temperatures will climb into the low 50s as a result of the gusty winds.

The next weather system of interest will bring wet weather to central Illinois for the middle of the work week. The current thinking is that most of Wednesday will be dry, before widespread rain moves into central Illinois for Wednesday evening. Rain chances will continue through the start of the day on Thursday. A few snowflakes are possible on the backside of this weather system on Friday. The extended forecast features a colder start to the upcoming weekend, followed by another warm up next week.
