Snow chance in the morning, wintry mix likely this evening
PEORIA (25 News Now) - Another round of wintry precipitation is on tap for the start of the weekend with a mix of snow, rain and ice possible. Once this system exits the region, much of the extended forecast will trend quiet, but cool.
Saturday: An area of low pressure located over the western Great Plains continue to slide eastward this morning along with an eastward extended cold front. This cold front will lead to a sharp contrast in temperatures across Central Illinois with highs reaching the mid 40′s in the south and highs remaining sub-freezing near I-80.

Light snow will begin to fall this morning, mainly near I-80. As this system continues to pass, we’ll see a wintry mix set in during the evening into our Saturday night. This mix will likely feature snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain. Snow chances will remain closer to I-80, with precipitation transitioning to more rain the further south you go.

While snow chances will run highest near I-80, additional light snow will be possible further south throughout the morning. In total, snowfall will range from 1-2″ near the I-80 corridor, with trace amounts up to an inch of snow possible further south.

An additional focus will be placed on the chance for ice accretions as a result of our freezing rain chances. A light glaze up to a tenth of an inch may lead to slick roadways tonight into Sunday morning.

Sunday: A few lingering flurries may fly early, otherwise; the day will trend cloudy and colder with highs in the 20′s.
