PEORIA (25 News Now) - The Peoria County Coroner says a 42-year-old Galesburg woman died Thursday morning, after being involved in a crash on her way to work.
Coroner Jamie Harwood says Amanda Matuszyk died Thursday morning from multiple blunt-force trauma injuries.
Harwood adds she was employed as a Patient Care Tech at OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center where she was traveling to work that morning.
The Illinois State Police say both Matuszyk and a truck tractor with semi-trailer were heading on I-74 Eastbound near Schlink Road, when Matuszyk tried to change lanes in front of the truck tractor.
That is when, according to State Police, she lost control, ran off the roadway to the right, and then to the left before hitting the truck tractor, and ending up in the median. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the truck tractor was not injured.
Harwood says the semi had been slowing but was unable to avoid striking the car.
All lanes of traffic were closed for nearly two hours due to the investigation.
