Decatur man identified after fatal shooting Sunday in West Peoria

WEST PEORIA (25 News Now) - Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood is identifying the Decatur man killed in a shooting Sunday morning in West Peoria.

The man is Stashaun L. Wheeler of West Marietta Street.

Harwood says preliminary autopsy findings will not be available until Tuesday.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Casey’s Gas Station at 2114 W. Farmington Rd. in West Peoria shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday morning to reports of a male shot in the parking lot.

Wheeler was found deceased with several gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the gas station.

Preliminary information shows two armed suspects approach the victim in the parking lot and begin shooting. The suspects ran westbound out of the parking lot on Farmington Road, possibly leaving in a vehicle waiting down the road.
