PEORIA (25 News Now) - Brief light snow showers and flurries will linger through this evening. We’ll stay cloudy overnight and lows look to fall into the mid 20s as northwesterly winds bring in colder air. Low clouds will be stubborn to erode tomorrow morning but expect the sun to finally return in the afternoon! Unfortunately, it will be short lived, as a system off towards our north will bring in more clouds Monday night into Tuesday. Highs on Monday and Tuesday will be in the mid to upper 30s.

Our next chance of precipitation arrives late Tuesday night into Wednesday. A system will develop in the southern plains and will likely lift northeast along the Ohio river valley. We will be on the north/northwestern side of this system, which means the main precipitation type will be snow. But how much?

It’s still too soon to name specifics, but I’ve noticed that models have shown the heaviest band of accumulating snow to be southeast of our viewing area. Lighter accumulations look more likely for us, with the lightest amounts northwest of the river and heaviest along and east of I-55. There is still a lot that can happen with the track of this system, so continue to keep your eye on the forecast as we get more data over the next couple of days.

Temperatures Wednesday through the weekend to be near average in the low to mid 30s. Heading into February, long term models have been hinting at much colder temperatures (highs in 20s, lows in the teens/single digits).
