PEORIA (25 News Now) - After quiet conditions to begin the weekend, scattered snow showers have worked their way into Central Illinois. We’ve already seen trace amounts up to about an inch area wide. A few snow showers and flurries will continue for our Sunday’s forecast, but any additional accumulations will remain minor. Quiet conditions will return for the start of the work week before we turn our attention to another winter storm system that will arrive by the midweek.

Sunday: Light snow showers continue across the region early this morning as an area of low pressure continues to slide eastward off to our south. While we have seen minor accumulations overnight, the snow has mainly been a nuisance. A few slick spots will be possible this morning, but warmer ground temperatures has helped melt much of the snow on roadways.

Light snow showers will continue through daybreak before scattered flurries continue throughout the day. An additional light snow shower or two cannot be ruled out, but much of the region will likely just deal with flurries. Any additional snow we see today won’t account to more than trace amounts. Temperatures will be seasonably mild trending in the mid to lower 30′s.

The Week Ahead: The start of the work week will feature quiet and mild conditions. Monday will feature decreasing clouds throughout the day with highs in the upper 30′s. Clouds will begin to build Tuesday as our next storm system approaches from the southwest.

This storm system will be the main focus in our forecast next week, as measurable snowfall is expected. It may be too early for exact specifics, but the latest forecast models are in agreement that accumulating snowfall is likely across Central Illinois. The latest runs place the heaviest band of snowfall further to the southeast of us, closer of I-57. If this system were to shift to the northwest over the next few days, our chance for accumulating snowfall would increase.

Our next storm system will bring snow by Wednesday morning.

We’ll make sure to keep an eye on this system as it approaches and bring you the latest updates!
