Nuisance snow this weekend
PEORIA (25 News Now) - It will be a quiet start to the weekend with temperatures trending a few degrees above seasonal averages for Saturday afternoon. Snow chances will return to Central Illinois Saturday night into Sunday morning with minor accumulations expected. Additional snow chances will be possible next week.
Saturday: Quiet conditions continue for the start of the weekend under mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures will trend in the mid to upper 30′s by the afternoon before our next storm system brings snow by late this evening into Sunday morning.
An area of low pressure located in the southern Great Plains early this morning will continue to slide northeast throughout the day. Once this system arrives, scattered snow showers will be possible late this evening into Sunday morning’s forecast.
Sunday: Scattered snow showers will be ongoing Saturday night into Sunday morning’s forecast, leading to a nuisance snow. Accumulations will not be major, but it will be enough to create some slick spots, especially north of I-74 where our totals look to be the greatest. Snow showers will taper through Sunday morning, but additional flurries will be possible throughout the afternoon.
In total, much of the region is set to receive trace amounts up to an inch of snow. The best chance for snow will run northwest of the Illinois River where one to two inches of snow are possible. Be mindful if you have any plans Sunday morning, as slick roadways will be possible.
Additional snow chances will be possible next week. Our next system looks to arrive by Wednesday. Make sure to tune in this morning for the full 10 Day First Alert Forecast!
