PEORIA (25 News Now) - An appeals court has ruled that a Peoria woman convicted of murder should get a new trial.
Sheyanah Lee was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the stabbing death of Markesha Jeffries during a fight in November 2018.
Lee appealed her conviction and sentence claiming ineffective counsel.
The appeals court agreed, saying Lee is entitled to a new trial because her attorney failed to object to the admission of a police officer’s body camera video at the scene into evidence which may have prejudiced the jury.
